The Lay Counsellor

• Counselling 1 (OCOU1161)*
• Sexuality and HIV Education 1 (OSHE1161)*
• HIV Counselling 1 (OHIVC1161)*
All modules are compulsory and must be passed.
*Two (2) Formative Assessments are included in this module, which are graded and weighted 20% each as part of the final grade awarded for the module. No supplementary opportunities are available for Formative Assessments. A maximum of one (1) additional supplementary opportunity is provided for both Summative Assessments as long as the Learner obtains a minimum of 30% in the first sitting/ submission of the Summative Assessment. Supplementary assessments attract an additional fee.

OUTCOMES
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and scope of sexuality and HIV education according to the fundamental theories
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and scope of counselling and HIV counselling according to the fundamental theories.
• Comply with relevant legal and ethical practice
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
National Senior Certificate; or National Certificate (Vocational) L4; or equivalent qualification OR alternatively Learners can apply for RPL entry into the programme from the Academic Committee at Boston Head Office.

BOSTON SHORT LEARNING PROGRAMME
On successful completion the Learner will be issued a Boston Short Learning Programme The Lay Counsellor including a total of 40 Higher Education credits on NQF L5 (HCOU1, HSHE1, HHIVC1).
FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion the Learner may apply for admission with advanced placement to an accredited Boston Higher Education Programme.
