From turntables to laptops and beyond, the array of technology at the disposal of the modern DJ is almost endless. An exciting world where hardware meets human ingenuity to create genre bending, dance floor shattering performances.

Practical

• The functionality of a professional turntable CD player
• Cueing and control
• Beat matching
• Using the headphones - monitoring
• Applications and functionality of a professional DJ mixer
• Bars & beats:
• Basic music structure
• Advanced music structure and selection
• Training your ear
• Manipulating the cycles, patterns and sequences within music

Theory

• Knowing your equipment
• Defining and understanding the various styles/genres of music
• Defining and understanding the structure of music
• Understanding and manipulating the mixer
• The responsibilities of a professional DJ

 

Course structure and class attendance

 

The SCIM DJ 101 course runs for a duration of two months (8-weeks) and students can start anytime, space permitting.

 

Students will attend class twice weekly. One practical lecture and one theory lecture per week. Students will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
