MEET Kgomotso Mvuvelo, owner and communications/events manager for Reabetswe Communications and Events, who tells us about her line of work.
What does your day in your job entails?
Each day bring new adventures for Reabetswe Communications and Events – the excitement of new concepts and meeting new clients.
What are your responsibilities?
As owner of Reabetswe Communications, leadership is a fundamental building block for the growth of my company and employees. I have to establish good partnerships and maintain current clients while attempting to expand my clientele.
What did you do before this job?
I worked in marketing for several corporate companies.
What challenges do you face on your job?
Difficult clients and last minute orders.
Where did you study and when?
I studied at Boston Media House in 1998.
What do you like about your job and what do you hate about it?
I love every aspect of it. Co-ordinating a project from beginning to end and the rush that goes into it. As an events manager, you can never organize yourself 100%. There are always last minute surprises. I don’t particularly enjoy the reduced sleeping hours but it is part of my job so I have accepted it. One can never relax because so much adrenaline is required for each project
Has it always been your dream to do what you do?
Definitely. I love planning and organizing and I am the best at what I do.
What’s the worst thing that ever happened to you in your line of duty and how did you overcome it?
Certain clients with huge constraints requesting the impossible on projects. I always give my best and produce exactly what is expected of me.
If you weren’t doing what you are doing what do you think you’d be doing and why?
I have no second choice. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else. I was in the industry long before qualifying for it. After realizing how enthusiastic I get once around people and about making them happy, I never stopped organizing and co-ordinating.
Where do you see yourself in the near future?
I see myself running my a huge event management corporation and being hands-on as possible.
Are you married?
Yes, I’m married to a wonderful husband Mpho. We have a one year old child, Lesedi who understands that mommy can’t always pick him up frm the crèche as mummy is at work catering and setting tables.” Balancing every aspect of my life is emotionally and physically draining. However, with the support system I have I’m able to balance the two while maintaining consistency in both spheres.
