She was a little surprised when six van pulled up in front of their offices, but Jawitz Properties Paula Nield says everything ran smoothly on the day the Boston Experience It! crew spent the day filming at their offices.
“It was lights, camera, action throughout our offices,” says Nield. “It was very exciting for us to experience.” Jawitz Properties is one of the companies that has partnered with Boston City Campus and Business College to bring the Experience It! campaign to life.
This entails three minute features that are being sown on e.tv every Monday evening, with each show featuring specific careers; selected students visit a company to find out more about the careers they’re looking at for their future.
Viewers can follow the students and presenters as they learn about ins and outs of each career. “When Boston City Campus approached us with the idea, we thought the concept was fantastic and jumped at the opportunity to get involved,”says Nield.
“We were surprised at the number of people involved and the amount of equipment required. Also at how long it takes to shoot one programme.” Greg Vercelotti, of software development company Dariel Technologies, echoes Nield’s enthusiasm for the Experience It! campaign.
Boston’s TV crew visited Dariel Technologies to showcase an IT developer’s career. “The presenter of the show Bonita G, made the experience a memorable one for us.
She was fun, but very knowledgeable and professional; there was no dull moment, even while waiting for the cameras to start rolling.” The companies that have the opportunity to recruit Boston graduates who show the right attitude once they are ready for the workplace.
“There is an acute shortage of IT developers in our country, and not enough has been done to nurture these rare skills. The day the Experience It! crew came to our company really made us aware of the importance of career advice.
“There was a positive energy that was almost tangible, reminding us of the responsibility we have when it comes to passing skills to the next generation.”
The broader Experience It! campaign is a fantastic opportunity for graduate to gain the work experience they need, says Nield. “Boston has put lot of effort into assisting their graduates once they complete their studies – I doubt that there is another programme like this one,” she says.
