Good news! You can still register for UNISA second semester

If you want to apply to further your studies at Unisa this year still, you need to hurry and submit your application. Applications for the second semester are open at the moment and close on Friday, April 24.

Unisa is the largest distance learning university in Africa and its courses are popular because students can study from home or attend classes at Unisa-licensed colleges close to home. This way, students save on the time it takes to get through the academic material on their own, and also save on travelling and accommodation costs. Distance studying also gives students the freedom to study when it is convenient for them and many Unisa students, in fact, have full-time jobs.

Being a Unisa licensee, Boston City Campus & Business College will as usual be assisting students for the next two weeks with Unisa applications as well as career advice. Boston offers tuition support for students who register for the Unisa BCom, LLB, BBA, BAdmin and BCompt undergraduate degrees, as well as the postgraduate.

There are often changes in the processes at Unisa and Boston maintains daily liaison with the university in order to provide valid information to new applicants and existing students. “All new students to Unisa have to applyfor admission before a stipulated closing date,” explains Natalie Rabson of Boston City Campus & Business College. “Once your application is accepted and you have paid the application fee, you are allocated a student number. With this student number, and on receipt of a letter of acceptance from Unisa, you can then go ahead and register for the course for which you applied.”

Rabson points out that closing dates and periods of registration differ. If you’re not careful, you may miss the Unisa cut-off dates and have to wait for the next application opportunity to register for the course of your dreams. “Registered Unisa students who wish to change the degree for which they are registered must use this application period to submit a new application for the new degree. If for example, you are registered for a BCom accounting, and wish to change your specialisation to a BCom risk management, a new application must be submitted”, says Rabson. And yes, even online applications have cut off dates. (Note that Boston accepts no responsibility for final Unisa registrations and application, as the responsibility for these lies directly with Unisa.)

If you need help choosing a course or subjects go to a Boston campus and get help from a trained student advisor. Boston offers career and study advice free of charge as part of the college’s corporate social responsibility. You can go to www.boston.co.za to choose the Boston college that is the nearest to you or you can email evy@boston.co.za to assist you.

Remember that you need to get your paperwork ready. In general, to apply for a tertiary course you need certified copies of your identity book, academic certificates, letter of recommendation from your school, and proof of residence. Boston can assist with these certifications if you have your original documents at your consultation.  To apply for studies at Unisa, you need to scan and upload a certified copy of your ID and matric results (Boston can assist),  and pay R100 application fee. “There are registration rules that you need to follow and terms and conditions that you need to adhere to, so don’t leave it for last minute,” Rabson reiterates. “Whatever you do, don’t delay in finalising your Unisa application before April 24.”Unisa registrations for 2015 second semester will take place between June 17 and July 10. Boston Bedfordview is currently running fast track courses that cover revision of the material as well as exam preparation in Unisa Modules for the upcoming exams. Booking essential.
